No bollocks, they're looking at the Balero

Keep hearing that a local company wants to import the Indian Mahindra Bolero, a 4WD that looks like a cross between a Mercedes G-Wagen and an old Pajero. Here's a link to a review. Could be interesting if it happens and the price is right.

  1. Remember when some outfit tried to sell Tata utes here. Why would this thing be any better?

  2. So that's the origin of the new Defender's front end design!

  3. I drove one of these often when I was doing relief work. It's not all that bad, but not up to the standards of mainstream 4x4s. I don't think it would sell here at all. You'd be better off with a used Japanese import.

  4. According to the review it is 2WD only: "The new Mahindra Bolero is a 2WD, 7-seater utility vehicle that is available in five models...".

And with a measly 63HP, it is hardly going to pull too many skins of custards.

  5. Despite what the linked review says, there are 4WD versions. And yes, the power and torque figures are hardly impressive.

  6. Further to my original comment and the later question of whether it's a 4WD, the ones I drove were all 4WD. However, I do recall that 2WDs were available. As disco2hse identified, power was not a strong point, but they got along okay.
