Hail to The Chief – here's a Jeep we'd really like to see in production

Nothing New Zealand here, but not to worry. We just had to break the content rule (again) to show off this incredible Jeep concept vehicle, The Chief. There's a Wrangler lurking under those retro Jeep lines. Every year for nearly half a century, the company has rewarded owners who have "bought into" the brand by developing a set of concept vehicles and showing them at the big Easter Safari held in the first week of April at Moab, Utah.

Powered by a 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 mated to the six-speed auto, The Chief is meant as a tribute to the classic 1970s Cherokee, evoking the US west coast surfer lifestyle with vintage white over blue paint, removable sides, chromed bumpers and 17 inch slotted alloys. The surfer theme continues inside with Hawaiian-style pink, blue and white-flowered mixed fabric and leather trim, a rosewood grab handle and tiki-style shifter (so that's a big "yee-ha!"). The doors and windshield have been chopped 50mm and The Chief rolls on a 50mm lift kit with Fox shocks, Dana 44 axles with lockers, and modified Rubicon rock rails.
