Speaking of 40th birthdays, the New Zealand Four Wheel Drive Association (NZFWDA) marks this landmark next year. The association is an umbrella body for 4WD clubs in New Zealand. For years membership was largely North Island clubs, but there's now a good South Island contingent, which is banding together to run the Southern Safari (basically Picton to Bluff) later this month. One benefit for members of affiliated clubs is receiving the association's often-useful newsletter, Trail Torque. Editorship has been taken over by Bobbie Kincaid, the founder and former owner of 4x4 Action magazine, and the first issue under her stewardship is a huge move forward, with good layout and lots of interesting content.
