The moral of this item is not to mess with Uncle Sam; especially don't try to make a profit by exporting your Defender there. America is starved of the Defender and as a result used-market prices are ridiculously high, causing some entrepreneurs, mainly in the UK, to export examples that aren't entirely legal. Well, legal at all, really. It's possible to export them to America if they're 25 years old, or older, but the temptation to ship over newer vehicles with dodgy plates and paperwork is too hard to resist. Unfortunately, the protectors of America's borders are onto it, with dramatic and terminal consequences. Check this story and weep. No comments about this being the best thing that can happen to a Defender, please.
