'Commander unfit for human consumption' - CEO

4wdNewz had to look to the Australian Jeep forum for a photo of a Commander actually doing something off-road. Not exactly generous front wheel travel, it would seem.
You have to feel sorry (I do, sort-of) for owners of the Jeep Commander, the poorly conceived, large and ugly 4WD wagon whose only positive was an ability to seat seven. It's been put out of its misery now, and at the Detroit motor show Chrysler Jeep boss Sergio Marchionne was reported as saying of it: "That car was unfit for human consumption. We sold some, but I don't know why people bought them." Despite – or maybe  because of – being named its vehicle of the year by a local 4WD magazine, it was a poor seller in New Zealand, where it was launched in April 2006. In 2009 as many as eight Kiwis bought one, down from 19 a year earlier.

  1. You don't need wheel travel with the electronic traction control.

  2. Quite right, Nicholas; I just felt in a mood to mock the vehicle.

  4. Probably because it's hard to think of much positive to say about that particular vehicle, Anonymous.
