UTV or ATV? Here's the difference

UTV and ATVs at an earlier Fieldays.
A reader has taken 4wdNewz to task for wrongly calling a UTV an ATV, and he was correct. It's not okay to use the acronyms interchangeably, even though the types share many similarities. An all terrain vehicle, ATV, is essentially an off-road, single seater with room for one person or a couple of dogs on the back. A utility task vehicle, UTV, is also known as a side-by-side because two people can sit next to each other under a roof of some kind. It incorporates a truck-like tray specifically for carrying cargo, and/or may have a second row of seats. Best to get the terminology right, because UTVs may well be the future of off-road recreation.
