Son of 4Runner: Toyota plans to bring new ute-based wagon to NZ

In what could be seen as a throwback to the much liked 4Runner (Surf in used import guise), Toyota is planning to introduce a wagon based on the next Hilux ute. The Fortuner has the basically the same  chassis as Hilux and will use the ute's new four cylinder 2.8 litre diesel engine. Like such similar vehicles as the forthcoming Ford Everest (based on the Ranger) and and Mitsubishi Challenger (Triton) it will drop the ute's rear leaf-springs in favour of an independent coil setup. Good news: Fortuner is expected to have a rear differential lock.
