It's no secret that the main reason for slow sales of the Nissan Patrol Y62 is due to its lack of a diesel engine. The same resistance is being experienced in Australia, where Motoring.com.au has quoted Richard Emery, head of Nissan over there, as saying a diesel Patrol was years away, perhaps not until the next generation. That could be another five or six years.
Emery was reported saying that Nissan needs to find a Patrol diesel solution for other markets, not just Down Under. He thought that the growing new vehicle market in India might help speed things along. The Australians have retained the old GU model for those who must have a Nissan Patrol but also must have diesel, an option that New Zealand thought about but declined. However, emissions requirements and its general age will likely kill off the GU within a couple of years.
