The UK's main car insurers are refusing to cover Land Rover Defenders with side-facing seats. Ouch, that's a big share of the entire production run prior to 2007, when they changed to front-facing seats in the back. The side-facing seats are deemed dangerous in these OSH-coddled times. They probably are – and really uncomfortable, too; but why not go further and refuse to insure the Defender altogether: no airbags, no structural rigidity if you roll, no this, no that?
